Residential Rental Inspection

The City of Oakbrook Terrace conducts inspections of all rental property for the health, safety, and welfare of tenants.  Inspections are conducted according to the 2009 International Property Maintenance Code as amended by the City.

The entire property is inspected, which includes the following:

• Landscaping (i.e. grass, weeds and trees)
• Abandoned/Inoperable Motor Vehicles
• Cleanliness of property
• Building Exterior: stairs, decks, walls, roofs, and windows.
• Interior: every unit, room, hall, stairwell, basement, and attic.
• Emergency Escape and Rescue windows in basement units
• Smoke Detectors.
• Carbon Monoxide Detectors
• Light, ventilation and occupancy limitations.
• Plumbing facilities and fixtures.
• Mechanical and electrical systems.
• Accessory structures such as detached garages, sheds, fences, etc. are properly maintained.
