Building Division
The primary mission of the Building Division is the orderly processing of permit applications and subsequent inspections for all building activity within the community; and also to monitor and pursue compliance with standards of the adopted codes. Many residential building projects, from new houses and additions to small improvements, require a permit which helps protect the property owner, neighbors, and the City.

Below is a list of common projects that require permits:

PROJECTS THAT DO NOT REQUIRE PERMITS
- Painting, tiling, carpeting and similar finish work
- Kitchen/bathroom cabinet or fixture replacement
- Temporary Swimming Pools
- Swings and other playground equipment

- All contractors must be registered with the City prior to permit release. To register as a contractor, please click here.
- The City of Oakbrook Terrace is contracted with Flood Brothers Disposal for all waste removal. Contact Flood Brothers directly to schedule delivery of all dumpsters at 630-261-0400.
- If a project requires excavation, contact J.U.L.I.E. at 811 before digging.
Permit Submittal Process
Commercial Permit Applications: The City of Oakbrook Terrace requires all commercial building permit applications to be submitted online through our Online Permitting Portal.
Residential Permit Applications: While commercial permit applications must be submitted online, residential permit applications may be submitted in the following ways:
