Residential Rental Licensing

The City of Oakbrook Terrace requires all residential rental properties to be licensed and inspected yearly. The purpose of the licensing and inspection of residential rental properties is to protect the public health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the City. The City ordinance ensures that rental properties comply with the minimum housing standards, along with maintaining and improving the character and stability of residential areas. Inspections also correct and prevent housing conditions that adversely affect, or are likely to affect, the life, safety, health, and general welfare of persons occupying the dwellings. The City of Oakbrook Terrace also seeks to eliminate overcrowding of dwellings by requiring compliance with established occupancy standards.

All owners of a rental property within the City of Oakbrook Terrace must obtain a yearly license. Applications will be mailed to all property owners on file with the City by the end of April or the application is available online at www.oakbrookterrace.net. The completed application with the required fee and support documents are due by May 1 and must be submitted to the City before a rental inspection would be scheduled. Ordinance No. 16-9, dated February 9, 2016, is available for viewing here.
